2015–16 Football League Championship was the twenty-fourth season under its current league structure.
Burnley won their second Championship title in club history. Second team promoted to Premier League is Middlesbrough. Teams in 3th-6th place of the table entered the promotion play-off. Hull city were the third promoted team, beating Sheffield Wednesday 1:0 in the finale.
Derby Country were in lead of the competition in the half of the season. Average attemdance was 17,578 spectator on single match. Burnley recorded unbeaten run for 23 matches. Andre Gray scored 25 goals and became the top scorer of league. Dimitrios Konstantopoulos kept clean sheet in 22 games. In average, 2.42 goals were scored per match.
Charlton Athletic, Milton Keynes Dons and Bolton Wanderers were relegated. Wigan, Burton and Barnsley were promoted from League One and will replace them next season.
Transfer window
Newcastle made 2 £10m+ signings. Midfielder Matt Ritchie and forward Dwight Gayle. Georginio Wijnaldum left club for £23.38m Liverpool´s offer.Crystal Palace bought Andros Townsend for £12.16m. The most expensive acquisition of Norwich is £7.99m Alex Pritchard. Ross McCormack playing for Fulham joined Aston Villa for £12.16m. Those were all clubs playing Premier League last season.
Other teams did not
make such a big signings. Sheffield Wednesday purchased Almen Abdi. Attacking
midfielder playing for Watford last season cost them £3.06m. Birmingham City acquired
20 years old talent Che Adams for £1.87m fee. Queens Park Rangers sold Matt
Phillips and Leroy Fer for £5.53m and £4.76m fee. Leeds United signed Kemar
Roofe (£2.98m). Lewis Cook left the club for Bournemouth (£5.95m). Spanish Jozabed
Sánchez midfielder joined Fulham for £3.40m. The club sold their strikers - Ross
McCormack and Konstantinos Mitroglou. Tomás Kalas, centre back playing for
Chelsea, joined the club on a loan.
