Dutch Eredivisie The Eredivisie is the top league competition of professional football in the Netherlands. League is currently ranked 10th in the UEFA rankings of leagues based on performances in European competitions over the last five-years. League is considered as a very offensive football competition.

Competition is contested by 16 clubs. Each club meets every other club twice in one season, once at home and once away. Last team of the table is relegated to the Eerste Divisie. Champion of the Eerste Divisie is automatically promoted to the Eredivisie. The next two clubs from the bottom of the Eredivisie play promotion/relegation play-offs. There are two groups. In each groups is one Eredivisie team and three high-placed Eerste Divisie teams.The winner of each play-off group plays in next season in Eredivisie, the other teams are going to the Eerste Divisie.

The league was founded in 1956, two years after the start of professional football in the Netherlands. AFC Ajax is the most successful team in history of competition. Ajax won title 24 times, PSV Eindhoven 18 times and Feyenoord won 9 titles. These three teams won all season since 1965, except 3. The 1981 and 2009 AZ win and FC Twente won the 2010 title.

On 8 August 2012 it was made public that the American-based Australian tycoon Rupert Murdoch had secured the rights to the Eredivisie for 12 years for 1 billion euros, beginning in the 2013/2014 season. Within this deal the five largest Eredivisie clubs should receive 5 million euros per year for the duration of the contract.

The champions qualify straight for Champions League group stage. Second team enters qualifying round for Champions League.

Current champions are PVS Eindhoven. It was their second win in a row. Before PVS´s win, Ajax won 4 consecutive seasons.
